Summary

Laugh out loud with Captain Underpants, the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Dav Pilkey, the creator of Dog Man!

George and Harold, and their doubles, Yesterday George and Yesterday Harold, have a good thing going。 Two of them go to school, while the other two hide in the tree house and play video games all day -- then they switch! But it turns out there's something rotten in the state of Ohio, and it's smellier than a pile of putrid gym socks。 The boys' malicious gym teacher, Mr。 Meaner, has created a method of mind control that transforms their fellow students into attentive, obedient, perfect children。 Now the future of all humanity is in George and Harold and Yesterday George and Yesterday Harold's hands!

My 10 year old son read this book with me and we both loved it。 I'm looking forward to reading the preceding 11 other books in the series。 After enjoying the movie, I had high expectations and I was not disappointed。 I loved the play of words for all the names of the adults like Mr。 Meaner, Miss Anthrope, Mr Rected etc。 I loved the chapter titles with their reference to movie and song titles ("Crimes and Mr Meaner", "Ooze on down the road", etc。) or just fun word play ("A paradox for a pair of d My 10 year old son read this book with me and we both loved it。 I'm looking forward to reading the preceding 11 other books in the series。 After enjoying the movie, I had high expectations and I was not disappointed。 I loved the play of words for all the names of the adults like Mr。 Meaner, Miss Anthrope, Mr Rected etc。 I loved the chapter titles with their reference to movie and song titles ("Crimes and Mr Meaner", "Ooze on down the road", etc。) or just fun word play ("A paradox for a pair of docs", "Let us spray", etc。)。Regarding the characters, George and Harold are cool; possibly even cooler than Ferris Bueller! The villain is a wonderfully two dimensional evil genius。 The plot is fantastic, in every sense of the word。 I loved how the author completed the loop perfectly with the end of the book, linking back perfectly to the beginning and tying up all the lose ends in such a way that it all seemed so natural。While my 10 year old could read most of the words, I liked how there were a few peppered here and there that were new to him and that I could help him with, such as hamsterdactyls, psychologist and expeditiously (that first one was a new for me too!) ;-) 。。。more

My son absolutely adores these books (and the show), and while I'm not a fan, it's really increased his interest in reading。Mr。 Meaner becomes super smart and tries to convert everyone to be like him。 With all the usual hijinks, the boys, along with Captain Underpants, save the day。 My son absolutely adores these books (and the show), and while I'm not a fan, it's really increased his interest in reading。Mr。 Meaner becomes super smart and tries to convert everyone to be like him。 With all the usual hijinks, the boys, along with Captain Underpants, save the day。 。。。more

I think Dav has thought of it very precisely and I could imagine how difficult it may have been for him to come up with such an honorable idea。Mr。 Krupp is so arrogant but when he transforms into Captain Underpants he is totally the opposite。I wish this Tv series was REAL。This book teaches us a lesson; it's not important to be good and smart, (like Melvin Sneedly)it's about what makes you feel happy。George and Harold are not smart or sporty but still, they are happy and passionate about what the I think Dav has thought of it very precisely and I could imagine how difficult it may have been for him to come up with such an honorable idea。Mr。 Krupp is so arrogant but when he transforms into Captain Underpants he is totally the opposite。I wish this Tv series was REAL。This book teaches us a lesson; it's not important to be good and smart, (like Melvin Sneedly)it's about what makes you feel happy。George and Harold are not smart or sporty but still, they are happy and passionate about what the like to do; write and imagine and it doesn't matter, it is who they are。Keep writing about Captain Underpants, Dav。TRA LA LAA 。。。more

I'm not going to spoil it。Overall I really enjoyed this series。 Dav Pilkey suffered from ADHD, dyslexia and behavioral problems。 He was often out in the hall as a punishment for his disruptive behavior。 This gave him time to write and draw his own comic book stories。 In second grade Dav created Captain Underpants。 His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn't spend his life creating silly books。 He sure got the last laugh。 I love that Dav got to use his disability growing up to create something that most kids are very fond of。 I work at an elementary school and the Captain Underpant books are sooo well loved that they are all falling apart at the seams。 The library doesn't have enough copies for the amount of kids that want to read them。 A lot of the teachers have their own class sets because of this。 I have very much enjoyed reading George and Harolds adventures out loud to my own kids。 The cherry on top。 These books are filled with high vocabulary words。 They promote science, helping others and solving problems。 There are current events in these books which are funny to see AND future Harold is married to a man。 I'm happy to see a bit of gay representation in a children't book。 There all kinds of parents out there! I recommend these books! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Finally finished this series unless the author is planning to write more and have to say am glad I read it。 This review is a mix of my overall thoughts about the series and this volume。 Overall I am always hesitant to start kids series。 As an adult, I more than fully realize I am out of the target demographic and thus will probably not get as much enjoyment out of a kid's series that I would if I had read it when I was younger。 Have to say that was the case with Diary of a wimpy kid series。 Afte Finally finished this series unless the author is planning to write more and have to say am glad I read it。 This review is a mix of my overall thoughts about the series and this volume。 Overall I am always hesitant to start kids series。 As an adult, I more than fully realize I am out of the target demographic and thus will probably not get as much enjoyment out of a kid's series that I would if I had read it when I was younger。 Have to say that was the case with Diary of a wimpy kid series。 After awhile the main character and just other aspects about the plot made it not as enjoyable to read as it was when I started it。 I did finish it but it felt like a slog toward the end。 I felt the exact opposite with this series。 While it was not high brow literature of any sort, not that I had expected it to be , it was still fun and enjoyable。 The main characters are likable, the situations they get into though over the top are always fun to read about Will say they can get repetitive at times especially the endings but again that is to be expected with this any kids series。 。 To be honest was quite shocked at how enjoyable it was。 My interest of the series was brought on for the fact that I saw it in the recommend after I finished Diary of a wimpy kid and the fact that it is always being checked out at the library I go to 。 I thought I would give it a chance since the books were fairly short 。 I knew going in that most of the humor would probably not land given that I am not the biggest fan of potty humor 。In fact when it is in adult movies or books I roll my eyes and stop watching whatever movie or put down the book。 If anything thought I would get through one volume and give up because the potty humor would just overshadow anything else about the books。 I am glad to say it didn't。 Now granted there is still a fair share of it as well as immature jokes about butts and Uranus, but there is still enough fun story behind it where it doesn't become one big potty humor gag fest。 I was pleasantly surprised by how much plot there was throughout the series。 It is in no way perfect though and later on when the series starts messing around with time travel there are some plot holes, which I don't think kids reading the series will even notice, that creep up and also just things that just happen because it is a kids series and they can, which the book itself plays around with 。 In fact there are various forth wall breaks through , which were fun 。 Will say if you read them back to back with very little time in between the recaps at the start can be skipped。 Can see them being useful for kids if again was awhile between reading each book and they can be fun to flip through。 For a kids book, the characters are nicely fleshed out though can be simplistic at times。 The main characters here while still being trouble makers never do anything that would really hurt anyone overall。 For all the jokes and mischief in it the books especially this volume in the series can still deal with some serious topics。 At one point, it is brought up that both kids have ADHD 。 In most kids books something like this could be a one off mention and then heavily glossed over as being a topic too "mature" for the readers of said book。 Here though both of the main characters wear it as a badge of honor instead of something they should be ashamed of。 The book also makes some punny references to popular movies, songs, bands etc。 Some of which I am not even sure kids are going to get and can be fun for adults reading this if they do。 Mentioning more serious topics, another reason I even came across this series was that I heard it was banned for a number of reasons。 Like most series and well given what it is about expected the bans to be for all potty humor but I was surprised to see that it was also banned for mentions of a gay character。 At the time I had no idea who any of the characters where and even though there was a picture online of the page where said gay character is mentioned, I assumed that again since this is a kids series that it was probably some side character。 When I got to this volume and George and Harold go into the future where they meet their 30 year old selves, I was surprised again and happy that not only again did the author include reference to a gay(assuming gay though all know for sure is that Harold ends up marrying a guy in the future) character in a series for younger kids, but said character was main character。 I would not at all blamed the author to "play it safe" and have a quick mention to a teacher that had a same sex spouse or have again a student with two dads or two moms, but no he gave Harold, one of our main characters that we have been following through eleven volumes of books at this point , a wonderful husband。 The mention of such is only on one page and the husband only appears on three pages total but still it was so great to see。 More so because I am sure the author knew he was going to make some parents mad when their kids asked about it 。I don't know if it was planned all along to have it turn out that way or was a split second choice but either way I wish more kids series had lgbt or mentions of lgbt main characters。 I was also happy to see that it is treated like no big deal。 Neither boy comments on it it is just a stated fact like George having a wife 。 Overall I greatly enjoyed this series。 This volume is more a five than a four but basically taking review as the series overall。 This volume has fun time travel elements, funny situations while also being serious at times。 The series overall is fun as well。 Some volumes are stronger than others and while the humor can be cheap at times there is at least an interesting story to follow along with。 For sure a great kids series。 Will think about reading the other series by this author and overall hope this is the end of the series since think it had a nice closing but would not be too mad if he decided to bring our hero and main characters back for more adventures。 。。。more

This one was。。。 not great。First off, it went a little too far with the whole being disrespectful and criticizing older people thing。 I understand where he's coming from, but just because people wronged him doesn't mean that we should teach kids to be disrespectful。Second, again with the normalizing homosexual relationships。 If you believe that's ok, that's your right, and homosexuals should have the same American rights afforded everyone else。 However, it shouldn't be crammed down our throats。 I This one was。。。 not great。First off, it went a little too far with the whole being disrespectful and criticizing older people thing。 I understand where he's coming from, but just because people wronged him doesn't mean that we should teach kids to be disrespectful。Second, again with the normalizing homosexual relationships。 If you believe that's ok, that's your right, and homosexuals should have the same American rights afforded everyone else。 However, it shouldn't be crammed down our throats。 If we don't agree with it, we have to keep it to ourselves or be branded as hateful, whereas they can go on and on about it and not be called sexual deviants and immoral。 That makes no sense。 It's like we have to tolerate somethings, but the so-called tolerant people don't have to tolerate people with different views from their own。 Obviously it's kinda pointless to read Captain underpants if you are easily offended, but I liked all the other ones mostly。 They were fun。 This one just took things too far。 I have an idea that Either Netflix encouraged this with their constant pushing for homosexual acceptance, or he was just trying to take things as far as he could since he just wanted to close things off。 Third, it didn't flow very well。 One minute Mr。 Meaner is fighting Captain underpants, the next he is in jail and then breaking out and old George and old Harold are still there, like。。。 why? Since Mr。 Meaner had already been caught and sentenced。 This one was just disappointing。 。。。more

I guarantee, their vocabulary will grow as they EAT these books UP。Happy reading。 :)

The story “Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-lot” by Dav Pilkey is a story that has action, thrills, and laffs。 The story made me laugh a couple times and it is entertaining also, it has parts in the story that will be weird but funny at the same time but what I am trying to say is that you need to read this book because it is funny, entertaining, thrilling, and has action and who nows you might learn a thing or to。
